Change the units of measurement

$

Hi. As a used office furniture vendor people often send me their floor plans for me to outfit with furniture.  Sometimes I am lucky enough to get a DWG.   I was using the 2016 version but was having troubles so I downloaded the newest version (2019) but am still having problems.

What I use mostly is the measure distance option.   However the results are not in feet and inches like they always have been.  I am measuring in the "model" mode.

Please help!

Not an option with the free viewer: you need a fully capable CAD program for the task.

That is set by the file creator, not the viewer: you need to ask about the scale the file is in first. Or ask them to do the conversions for you.

There are free CAD programs out there to do conversions in if you need that ability yourself.

When I try to open a dwg file, it crashes. See file attachments. The file "Autocad Plan Example 2" I do not hav any problem with. The file "440-01 ..." Crashes the Trueview. See screenshot.

If any of you in the forum needs more info, do not hesitate to take contact.

Pendean your answer confused me.  I understood that you explain how to load an dxf file.  Is it right?

But my question was how to export an dxf file from dwg.

Ah, my mistake, I understood you only wanted to open a DXF file.

You need an actual read/write CAD program, not use a free viewer-only app, there are tons of freebies out there, go grab one.

Is he problem limited to this one single file? If yes, there is nothing in the viewer to fix it, you need to ask the file sender/creator for fix it for you and resend it.

I like TrueView (2018 & previous versions) because it loads faster than the mechanical just to get a schematic printed in monochrome. I realize this is a long standing issue but this is what I found after significant frustration and even a few (dozen) expletives along the way.

I tried both the plot and export function to get a pdf (my default printer) and TrueView just seemed to stall, the plot/publish icon acted like it was working but it never produced anything so I opened AutoCAD Mechanical and printed from there with no issues (same print settings). After viewing this post I did notice that I always printed in the backround by default as older PCs were just not comparable to the multitasking abilities of today.  All that said, I unchecked the "Plot in background" plot option and it now prints.
